LOCUS: A Testbed for Dynamic Spatial Indexing
نویسندگان
چکیده
We describe an extensible performance evaluation testbed for dynamic spatial indexing that is directly geared towards Location-Based Services (LBS). The testbed exercises a spatial index with several query types relevant for LBS: proximity queries (range queries), k-nearest neighbor queries, and sorteddistance queries. Performance metrics are defined to quantify the cost (elapsed time) of location updates, spatial queries, spatial index creation and maintenance. The testbed is extensible with new spatial indexing methods, new query generators, and new index visualization methods. Synthetic but realistic, three-dimensional “moving object” data is generated with CitySimulator, a toolkit we have developed specifically for LBS research and made available on the IBM alphaWorks developer Web site.

The SPIRIT search engine provides a test bed for the development of web search technology that is specialised for access to geographical information. Major components include the user interface, geographical ontology, maintenance and retrieval functions for a test collection of web documents, textual and spatial indexes, relevance ranking and metadata extraction. Here we summarise the functiona...
متن کاملSpatial Indexing for Data Searching in Mobile Sensing Environments
Data searching and retrieval is one of the fundamental functionalities in many Web of Things applications, which need to collect, process and analyze huge amounts of sensor stream data. The problem in fact has been well studied for data generated by sensors that are installed at fixed locations; however, challenges emerge along with the popularity of opportunistic sensing applications in which ...
متن کاملTowards an Image Testbed for Benchmarking Image Indexing and Retrieval Systems
There is an increasing recognition among the CBIR community of the need to establish a reliable and accessible image testbed for the evaluation of image indexing and retrieval methods. While CBIR is a very active area of research, much work has also been done in the library/information science (LIS) community on metadata and tools for indexing. While the CBIR community is beginning to realize t...
متن کاملEvaluating User Requirements for a Digital Library Testbed
The development of widespread capabilities for electronic archival and dissemination of data can be coupled with advances in information systems technology to deliver large volumes of information very fast. Paradoxically, as greater volumes of information become available on electronic information networks, they become increasingly difficult to access. Nowhere is this situation more pressing th...

We propose a performance benchmark for dynamic spatial indexing that is directly geared towards Location-Based Services (LBS). A set of standard, realistic location trace les is used to measure the update and query performance of a spatial data management system. We de ne several query types relevant for LBS: proximity queries (range queries), k-nearest neighbor queries, and sorted-distance que...
